My Thoughts On Man Of Steel

Why I Think Man Of Steel Is The Best Superman Movie.

So for today's blog I'd like to talk about why I think Man of Steel is the best Superman movie we've ever gotten. Now, I have seen the first two Christopher Reeve Superman movies and I actually really enjoyed both. I prefer the second over the first though since he fights General Zod and even though the fight is dated, I still get a kick out of it. Though I never really felt that those movies really got how alienated Superman/Kal-El can be sometimes. That's where Man of Steel comes in, we've seen Superman as the boy scout even if he just started being a superhero, he would always know the right thing to do. Sure there were times where Christopher Reeves Superman had internal struggles but I never felt that that's what his films were focused on. In Man of Steel however, we do focus on Superman's internal struggles and what he's had to tackle even at a young age. That's one of the strengths of Man of Steel, we get to see how he grows up, what influenced him, and the trauma he faces when his dad died. Zack Snyder does an excellent job giving the audience these flashbacks throughout the whole film and diving deep into where this Superman is at in his life. The reason I say that is because when he get the battle at the end with General Zod and his army, Kal-El has only been Superman for at the most, a couple of days. I mean he barely learned how to fly right when General Zod invaded Earth looking for him. So this Superman we get in Man of Steel isn't the Superman most fans of the character know and love. He even at a point doubts whether he can trust the human race or not, which makes for a very good scene in a church. He has a discussion with the priest about how he can't trust General Zod and he doesn't know if he should trust the people of Earth either. Then, the priest says an amazing line to him which is "Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith first, the trust part comes later.". Now, this line to me is what Superman is all about, I believe that Superman always takes a leap of faith first whether it comes to bad guys or people in general, he puts his faith in them and that's why he's the symbol of hope in both comics and movies. That scene with Superman talking to the priest is my second favorite scene in the entire movie. The first is actually one of my favorite scenes in movie history, and that's when he first learns to fly. We start of the scene with the great Russel Crowe giving a monologue of Kal-El giving the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. He says that his son has become more stronger than he ever could've imagined, and to only see how strong, he has to keep testing his limits. That's when he first takes flight and the score by Hans Zimmer called "Flight" is just beautiful and perfect in my opinion. Then, Superman crashes and we get a little bit more of a monologue by Russell Crowe about how the human race will stumble and fall, but in time, they will join you in the sun, and that's when Superman completely learns how to fly. I just think that that's one of the most beautiful and amazing scenes in film history. Man of Steel is far from perfect but they give us a new take on Superman, that will grow into the one everyone knows and loves and we will appreciate more when he reaches that point so that to me, makes Man of Steel one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. I truly would like to know what do you think about the movie and which superhero movie is your favorite as well. As always thank you for taking time out of your day to read this blog and please comment and share if you liked this topic I discussed.
