Possible Justice League Embargo?
Possible Justice League Embargo Lift Date.
So today there are rumors running about from this one writer for IndieRevolver who posted that he got an email from Warner Bros. for the Justice League embargo. It pretty much says that the embargo will lift the day before Justice League hits theatres. Now, this hasn't been confirmed by Warner Bros. yet, so take this news with a grain of salt. If this is actually true, then it can be very worrying because putting the embargo lift right before the movie is a red flag. From many past experiences, when a movie puts the embargo pretty much twenty-four hours before it's release means the studio has little to no faith in the movie and pretty much just want to sweep it under the rug.
For those of you who don't know what an embargo is, it's pretty much when movie critics are allowed to post their reviews on any form of media. So if a studio like Warner Bros. has a movie come out February 22nd, and show movie critics the film on February 17th, then they can set a date in between in which they will let critics talk about their movie, hence, an embargo. Most studios tend to have the embargo lift like 4 to 6 days before the film, though when they are confident in the movie like Thor Ragnarok, they lift it very early. For Thor Ragnarok, the embargo is been lifted for a while and the movie doesn't come out until November 3rd, this helps get the momentum going for the premiere. There is one little ray of hope if this rumor is true for the Justice League embargo, Wonder Woman.
I'm not necessarily talking about the character but her solo movie that came out a couple months back. Up to Wonder Woman's release, the embargo was set to lift just the day before the movie. However, Warner Bros. let film critics tweet their initial reactions and from that they saw overwhelmingly positive reactions. Once they saw that, they lifted the embargo a week early and let all reviews help to promote Wonder Woman's release. Hopefully this rumor isn't true and the embargo lift is set much earlier from Justice League's premiere, but all in all we should he cautious the closer we get.
