Best Denis Villeneuve Movie

Best Denis Villeneuve Movie To Date.

For today's topic I wanted to talk about which movie Villeneuve directed, that is my favorite. Now, I haven't seen all of his films but I've seen a few, mostly his recent ones so I probably won't change my mind until his new film comes out. So I've actually been giving this some thought, the reason is because a lot of his recent films are great, like Sicario, Prisoners, Arrival, and Enemy. Those are the movie I've seen of his, and for me it came down to Prisoners and Arrival. I really liked the other two, especially Enemy because I'm a big fan of films that dive into human psychology such as Requeim For A Dream, but the movie seemed a bit too complex.

Now, my favorite film Denis Villeneuve film is Arrival, starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, it's also his most recent film. Arrival tells such an interesting story because it's about humans coming in first contact with aliens and us trying to learn their language so we can communicate. But the human language is kind of all over the place so they misenterprate a word that either means tool or weapon and that causes the military to take charge against them. Also, I've noticed not a lot of people give credit to the cinematographer but Bradford Young has such a subtle vision for each shot in the movie, not really trying to convey these aliens as all-powerful beings. He makes the movie so beautiful with each shot and that's something I do really appreciate in movies because I'm fascinated on their vision of the film.

Also, when you watch the movie for the first time, you think the storytelling is told in a linear form, but then the film shows its hand in the third act and makes you rethink everything you saw. This is explained in the film by how the aliens language is has not beginning or end to it and Jeremy Renner's character explains how a language can rewire a person mind. Therefore, it explains how a person thinks and can perhaps perceive time in a different way. Then, when the audience figures out the twist, the way the next part of the movie plays out with an amazing score playing the entire time, it's on of the most beautiful scenes in a movie I've ever scene.  This movie is amazing and if you haven't seen it, treat yourself, I promise you won't regret it. As always thank you for taking time out of your day to read this blog and please comment and share if you liked this topic I discussed.
