Why Guillermo Del Toro Didn't Get His Hellboy Trilogy

Why Guillermo Del Toro Wasn't Allowed To Finish His Hellboy Trilogy.

So for today's topic I wanna talk about the reason/reasons why Guillermo Del Toro didn't finish his Hellboy Trilogy. Now I don't know about you, but I truly love Del Toro's take on the Hellboy character and the world he made. Guillermo Del Toro has such a great imagination and it just seeps off the screen when you watch the first and second Hellboy. I believe this is one of the cases where the sequel is better than the original though the first movie has more of a dark atmosphere to it. Also, the humor is just spot on in both movies, with humor, you have know exactly how to use it whenever you're making a movie and Ron Perlman delivers all the comedic notes perfectly.

So let's talk about why Del Toro didn't get to finish his Hellboy trilogy, the biggest part of it was Del Toro wanting too big of a budget. Del Toro wanted around a $120 million dollar budget (not including marketing) to make the third and final installment for Hellboy. Now the second movie "Hellboy: The Golden Army" made a little over $160 million at the worldwide box office, on a budget of $85 million budget (not including marketing). So therefore a third movie for $120 million isn't really a risk any studio would want to take knowing that let's say it makes another $160 million best scenario, it would only profit $40 million. So therefore, a studio may think perhaps people may have already lost interest in this trilogy because of the time gap it will have if they were to make a third film.

Also, the reason for such a long delay was because Guillermo Del Toro was working on "The Hobbit" which he was supposed to direct. What happened was MGM studios started getting into financial problems which led to multiple delays for the film and Del Toro just politely walked away since it was taking way too long to make the movie. So basically the biggest thing was Del Toro wanted too much money for the third movie, if the second was a bigger success than it was, then we perhaps would've gotten the final movie in the trilogy. As much as I wanted to see what Del Toro would've done if he had a third movie, I don't mind that the studio that owns Hellboy is I guess rebooting it. The concept they got for this new Hellboy sounds very interesting and they have signed on great actors for each character. As always thank you for taking time out of your day to read this blog and please comment and share if you liked this topic I discussed.
