My Thoughts On The Defenders
My Thoughts On The Defenders Season 1.
So today I finished up watching The Defenders and sad to say, I thought it was just decent. Don't get me wrong, it's still better than the second half of "Luke Cage" and definitely better than "Iron Fist", but even with only eight episodes, it dragged on sometimes. They have four characters with so much backstory and potential but I feel like they touched on the same subjects so many times without adding something new. The first episode was good because it gives the viewer an understanding of each character, their motives, and how they view the world. Then, for some reason, we get a lot of dialogue about the same motives and throughout the first couple of episodes, they interweave all the side characters.
Another thing that kind of bothered me was the action, not that it wasn't good but that it was most of the time dark. You can see that all the stunt men and actual actors are trying their best with the stunts but it seems to be hidden a lot. There are also a lot of questionable angles they decided to shoot the fight scenes that made you confused and trying to focus back in on what's happening. I will say though that there are so many good parts that almost make up for everything else. Like the first time they are all together and fighting, it's actually really good. The scene is nice and bright, you see what each character is doing, and they hold the shot long enough to see punches land and the build up for each strike. Also, there is a scene that they fight each other which is really good, so there are a lot of good things to come out of The Defenders.
Don't get me wrong, if you are wanting to watch this show, you should. It's just that it could've been some of the best tv team ups we ever got, but it just did decent. If you haven't watched any of the previous shows, I suggest watching "Daredevil" and "Luke Cage" to get some back story. For the rest of the shows it's ok, you get filled in on everything you need to know. All in all, watch the show if you're interested, but don't be expecting the hype, just kickback and relax for your weekend like I did.
